American home improvement retail chain Home Depot has recently unveiled a Darth Vader – meant to be used as a large-scale home decor. The brand launched the seven-foot product to mark May 4 celebrations, according to reports. May 4 is celebrated around the world as Star Wars day.
“Strike fear into the hearts and minds of your guests when Vader casually waves his LED lightsaber. Passersby beware, Darth Vader can use the Force to detect you with his motion sensor activation. The classic sounds of Darth Vader will have you turning to the Dark Side in no time,” Home Depot said in a statement.
According to the website of Home Depot, interested people can buy the product from the website of the store. It also anticipated to be accessible in stores later in the year, the product is priced at $299.
Additionally, the package also includes a Death Star pumpkin for Halloween, as well as a candy cane lightsaber and Death Star tree ornament.
May 4th is celebrated as Star Wars Day because of a pun on the phrase “May the Force be with you” – a famous quote from the Star Wars franchise. The pun is “May the Fourth be with you”.
This phrase was first used on May 4, 1979, when a London newspaper writer congratulated Britain’s new prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, on her first day of office with a full-page ad saying, “May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations.”
Even though the holiday was not created or declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans across the globe have chosen to celebrate the holiday. It has since been embraced by Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company as an annual celebration of Star Wars.
On this day, fans worldwide celebrate with Star Wars festivals, special deals from retailers and announcements about the future of the franchise.
