A New Way to Get Your Credit Score for Free — Straight From FICO

Getting your FICO score for free is now easier than ever before.

To celebrate Financial Literacy Month this April, FICO has announced that consumers can now access their FICO Score 8 for free at the myFICO website.

For more than a decade, FICO has made scores available to eligible consumers for free through programs such as FICO Score Open Access or through partners like Experian, which is one of the three major credit bureaus.

But now, you can access your FICO Score 8 — which is the most widely used FICO credit score — directly by visiting myFICO.com/free.

Those who sign up to view their score for free also get free credit monitoring and a free credit report every month from Equifax, another of the three major credit bureaus.

A premium version of the new service provides access to more scores and to credit reports from all three major credit bureaus, but it costs $29.95 per month.

One thing to note is that in the small print, FICO says the following: “You or we may cancel at any time.” A spokesperson tells Money Talks News that the new service “has been well-received by consumers, and we will continue to review customer reception and use.”

FICO also offers free access to scores through its:

• FICO Score Open Access Program: Hundreds of lenders participate in this 10-year-old program, which allows those lenders’ customers to view their FICO score for free on their bank statements and bank websites and mobile apps.
• Score A Better Future: FICO’s free credit education program hosts events across the country where consumers learn more about their FICO score and get free, one-on-one credit coaching.
