Get the self-care you need at the best cities for spas in the U.S.
Self-care is on everyone’s minds lately. It’s not surprising when, according to a recent survey, participants shared that they only feel relaxed approximately 40 minutes per day, on average. A 2021 survey also found that 50 percent of consumers surveyed are already budgeting their spa services and treatments to prioritize self-care.
The demand for a bit of R&R is apparent, whether you want scheduled full spa days or just a quick, one-hour facial to disconnect and reset.
Determining the best cities for spas
So which are the best cities to get a facial, get a massage or relax by the pool for the day?
To determine the answer, Rent. calculated the number of spas in the country’s 200 most populous cities on a per capita and per square miles basis. Scores for each calculation were summed to determine the final ranking.
Sure, you most likely guessed Miami as the top best city for spas, but there are definitely a few surprises and gems across the country. The 10 cities below are the best of the best cities for spas in the U.S.
10. Huntington Beach, CA
For a city of just 27 square miles and 196,652 residents, Huntington Beach has an impressive nearly three spas per square mile. One of the biggest — the 20,000-square-foot Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach’s Pacific Waters Spa — offers a luxurious experience with a vast menu of spa treatments.
After you choose one of the 77 spas available in the city, meditate and take a walk by the beach to complete your relaxing day.
9. Seattle, WA
Seattle residents enjoy access to many spas daily, with 37 spas per 100,000 residents, for a total of 269 spas in the city. That means not fighting for an appointment, creating even more stress than you already had.
Something not seen in most places, Seattle’s Olympus Spa is uniquely only for women. They offer baths, massages, body scrubs, skincare and even a full-service Korean menu to enjoy with your full-day pass. Perfect for making a day of it.
8. Orlando, FL
The first thing that comes to mind about Orlando is Disney World, not spas. But with so many resorts in its small 102 square feet land area, Orlando boasts 230 spas for its 309,154 residents. After those long days walking the parks, you need a way to unwind.
The Spa at Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Disney World offers zero-gravity wave loungers and access to its facilities after each service. A fan favorite at the spa is a healing honey treatment that it’s applied along with your deep tissue massage — guaranteed to kick off a very good nap.
7. Bellevue, WA
A surprising addition to the list, Bellevue takes the number seven spot on the list of best cities for spas. With 149,440 residents, Bellevue takes care of their wellness with a staggering 101 spas, about 67 per 100,000 residents. To put it into perspective, that’s the same number per capita as Las Vegas.
Bellevue’s spas pamper you with massages, scrubs, facials and pedicures. You name it. You’ll find spas owned by business owners with a personal touch and more extensive practices that offer medical services such as Botox and cryotherapy.
6. Las Vegas, NV
The city that never sleeps also needs to relax sometimes — it’s all about balance. Las Vegas, with some of the biggest luxury hotels in the country, has some of the best spas. The city has 436 spas, about 67 spas per 100,000 residents.
Morocco’s architecture inspires the Spa at Wynn & Encore (pictured above), and every room feels like it’s fit for a king (or queen). The signature treatment is a Polynesian-influenced body ritual that encourages deep relaxation through massage, body exfoliation and balancing the body’s chakras.
5. Atlanta, GA
Atlanta’s weather pushes everyone outside to enjoy the sun, bike around the city and hike in one of the city’s many parks. But for those who don’t like the outdoors to relax, there are more than enough spas to keep you occupied.
About half a million people have a total of 368 spas — about 74 spas per 100,000 residents. The Spa at the Four Seasons will take your breath away (and hopefully your stress, too) with its custom offerings, from a healing massage to an aromatherapy blend.
4. Scottsdale, AZ
Scottsdale has both beautiful desert landscapes and several resort spas ready to help you relax. With the Sonoran Desert in the background, every visit to the spa feels like magic with ingredients like agave, adobe clay, jojoba oil and prickly pear, all coming from the desert itself.
Scottsdale’s land area is the biggest in the top 10, with 184 square miles. The city has 261 spas in the area, with about 1.5 per square mile.
3. Fort Lauderdale, FL
Just a hop and skip from our number one spot, Fort Lauderdale, which has tons of offers locally for those looking for relaxation and self-care. With a population of 181,668, this Florida city has four spas per square mile, for a total of 140 spas.
Many of the spas in Fort Lauderdale have an ocean view with services like specialty massages, facials, wet room treatments, manicures, pedicures and body healing therapies. The Ritz-Carlton Spa, one of the most luxurious spas in the city, offers a cleansing ceremony, what they call “a detoxifying lymphatic drainage massage to help the body eliminate toxins.”
2. San Francisco, CA
San Francisco doesn’t fall behind when it comes to self-care. The city has an impressive 7.3 spas per square mile, with 42 spas per 100,000 residents. Start your day with yoga followed by a massage or facial at any of San Francisco’s 344 spas.
The famous Nob Hill Spa offers an arctic berry body scrub that keeps people coming back for more. Or, if you’re more of a deep-outdoor-soaking-tubs person, enjoy a good soak at Spa Vitale with a view of the Bay Bridge.

Methodology
Our survey includes the largest 200 cities by population with at least 25 square miles in land area. Rankings are based on the total count of spas by city. Population and land area data was also used to calculate the number of spas per capita (100,000 in population) and per square mile.
Calculations were scaled and scored. The total score is the sum of per capita and per square mile scores. Data on population and land size are from the U.S. Census Data on spas are from Foursquare business listings.
