A piece of New York theatre history is up for grabs.
A pre-war condo in Hell’s Kitchen — complete with 12-foot ceilings, oversized windows, and a 400-square foot loft — was recently listed for sale.
But despite the home’s many attribute, it’s the building’s storied past that caught our eye.
The condo sits in a pre-war condo building at 414 West 51st Street that was once The Cubiculo Theater, which housed New York’s Shakespeare Theater.
Here, a young Meryl Streep made her off-Broadway début as a fishermaid, Tisbea, in a 1971 production of Tirso de Molina’s The Trickster of Seville and the Stone Guest.
Later, the 5-story building — which dates back to 1910 — was converted to make way for three residential units, retaining the name ‘The Cubiculo Condominium’ as a tribute to the place that fostered the careers of many artists.
Drama aside, the loft condo is a beautiful home even without its claim to fame.
It’s currently configured as a two bedroom, and comes with two bathrooms and 12-foot ceilings — a rarity in the city.
Plus, future owners will enjoy four exposures, with plenty of natural light pouring in through the condo’s oversized windows.
There’s also a planting garden and outdoor grill, a den, a 400-square foot loft, a washer and dryer, and more!
Getting down to the details, the oversized gourmet kitchen boasts name-brand appliances and fixtures, along with Quartzite counters.
It’s adjacent to the expansive living room and dining area, which offer access to one of the bedrooms and the home office, which could double as a third, smaller bedroom.
The primary bedroom has original, exposed brick walls, built-in storage, and even a library ladder to reach elevated storage areas. There’s also an en-suite bathroom with a bidet.
Location-wise, the charming condo sits in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen, surrounded by some of the city’s best restaurants and entertainment venues, and only blocks away from Times Square and Carnegie Hall, among others.
The loft condo is priced at $2,395,000, with brokers Lisa Chajet, Bonnie Chajet, and Adjina Dekidjiev of Coldwell Banker Warburg in charge of the listing.
