Ever gotten yourself a nice, relaxing massage at the end of a long, tiring day?
Remember how that made you feel, and how it felt like all the pain and stress of the day were just gone, as if a magic eraser took wiped all the pain and stress of the day away?
Most of us go through a lot of mental and physical stress on a daily basis, even when we don’t have pressing issues or problems weighing us down.
We are all so tightly wrapped up in the busy life that we almost forget that our body muscles, tissues, brain, etc. need healing — and we rarely have time (or the necessary financial resources) to go seek comfort and release.
Starting the morning with a super healthy drink and a great workout session does help a lot, but what else can we add to our daily routine to make things run smoother?
We all know that a good, relaxing massage can make a big difference in both our mental and physical health.
And while going to a massage parlor every day isn’t feasible (unless you’re one of the lucky few that can afford it), there are some good alternatives that can get you similar results in the comfort of your own home, like having a massage chair recliner.
The main benefits of massage chair recliners
Now that I’m heading into the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, I’ve been looking for ways to make things a little more comfortable (spoiler alert, there aren’t that many) and started researching massage chairs.
As it turns out, there are quite a few benefits that come with owning a massage chair recliner, and they go far beyond relaxation, so I thought of sharing them with you, our readers, just in case you were considering getting one for your home, but are still on the fence on whether to make the investment or not.
Injury protection
In our daily life, we put a lot of tension on our body muscles, and releasing that is extremely important for us, otherwise you cannot maintain healthy health. We always try our best to keep our body protected or unharmed from all kinds of damages that are seen, but we don’t pay enough attention to the small, gradual type of damage that accumulates on a daily basis — which, in time, can lead to serious issues.
We do our best to exercise regularly in order to maintain a healthy body and have a fit life, but intense exercise leaves tension on different body muscles that massages do a great job of relieving.
If you follow athletes on social media or watch them in documentaries and interviews, you’ve probably already seen that every athlete pays special attention to having different parts of their body massaged to release muscle tension.
Massage chairs do a great job at this.
The chair helps loosen your body, freeing all the tension from the muscles. And while this is happening, damaged muscles start healing, making you less prone to common injuries like pulled muscles or lingering muscle pain.
Mood betterment
As previously mentioned, there’s tons of stress, unease, and anxiety that accumulate on a daily basis.
Gradually building up, the stress can cause lots of health issues that are difficult to mitigate — and all the clean eating, green living, and healthy exercising habits we try so hard to form can go to waste if mental health is ignored.
Massage truly works wonders in relieving stress; and it’s not just the enjoyable and relaxing part of it. The way massage works is by increasing localized blood flow, which releases tons of positive hormones like endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, which bring a sense of well-being.
Better skin
If you opt for a massage chair recliner with heat and massage options, not only will it help you release tension from your muscles, but it will increase blood flow. As blood travels more freely in your body, it irrigates the skin better, resulting in smoother, healthy-looking skin.
This is actually something I’ve seen a lot during pregnancy as well: with a better blood flow, my skin gained a healthier color and just looked a lot better (increased blood flow is actually a big part of that pregnancy glow people keep talking about).
Also, the heat removes impurities and loosens the pores. Plus, the heat makes you sweat a bit which releases toxins and impurities and makes the body healthier from the inside.
Breathing better
Our lifestyle takes its toll on lung capacity. When you always sit in an incorrect posture or walk and stand in a position that’s not ideal for your spine, that causes the muscle to contract around the lungs, and as a result, the lung itself starts contracting to correct the muscle. That will make your breaths faster and shorter.
Apparently, the massage chair can help you with that. The massage makes the muscle all around the body relax, including the muscles around your lungs, which allows them to swell more freely in your chest cavity. As a result, you can take in more air with less effort, allowing your lungs to function better.
Improves posture
People that work desk jobs tend to develop bad posture due to the fact that they have to sit for extended periods of time every day.
Bad posture has a lot to do with our overall health. It will most commonly lead to neck aches, shoulder aches, upper and lower back pain, spine pain, poor blood circulation, and tons of other conditions! And as you age, these issues will only get bigger and can lead to serious complications.
A massage chair can help with that. It will expand and loosen your back muscles, making them relax — which will improve blood circulation in your entire body. And also help strengthen your spine, especially if used on a regular basis.
Helps alleviate cancer side effects
One of the most surprising benefits I stumbled upon in my research was that massage chairs are a good way to alleviate pain when undergoing cancer treatments.
Massage has long been seen as a complementary therapy to chemo and radiation — which both take a massive toll on the human body. While it can’t do anything to treat the disease itself, it can help with some of the side effects of these therapies, including nausea, anxiety, depression, and fatigue, while providing the body with some much needed soothing and relaxation.
